Physical Life Skills

Our preschoolers develop a range of social and physical life skills before starting school. They form positive behaviours and socio-emotional skills that will help them make new friends when they start school.

Being physically independent helps them to participate in all learning experiences and achieve a smooth transition to school. These skills range from using a pair of scissors to the toilet independently. View our preschool Life Skills outcomes.

Health & Nutrition

From an early age, our early learners adopt good habits that keep them healthy and happy. They learn to make good healthy choices, practice personal hygiene, and adopt safe practices.

During the year, they receive complimentary dental and eyesight health assessments from professional health practitioners. They also learn practical tips on how to achieve optimum dental and vision care.

Transition to School Support

We will keep you updated on your child’s learning and development progress on our online Parent App. You’ll be able to view your child’s Learning Portfolio and Progress Reports.

We organise Transition to School  Information Sessions to help you select a suitable school for your child. The preschool year ends in a graduation ceremony to mark our preschoolers’ achievements.

Preschool Developmental Milestones

At Oz Education, we understand that the years leading up to kindergarten are crucial for building a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Our award-winning preschool program is specifically designed to support the development of 4 to 6-year-olds and help them transition smoothly into kindergarten. We foster a positive, engaging, and nurturing environment that encourages each child to grow emotionally, socially, and cognitively.

Preschool writing skills

As children approach kindergarten, they begin to show greater curiosity and attention to learning, with significant strides in language and cognitive skills. At this stage, children start to recognize letters, numbers, and basic shapes. They develop a growing vocabulary and start using more complex sentences. In mathematics, they become interested in concepts such as counting, sorting, and identifying patterns. At Oz Education, we actively support these milestones through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Our curriculum introduces foundational literacy skills like letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and early writing, all designed to spark a love of language. For math, we offer interactive based learning activities that help children explore counting, patterns, shapes, and measurement in a playful yet structured way. Additionally, our program encourages critical thinking and problem-solving through fun, age-appropriate challenges, laying the groundwork for academic success in kindergarten.

Friends

At this age, children begin to develop a stronger sense of self-awareness, independence, and social understanding. They start to engage more deeply with peers, showing interest in making friends, taking turns, and participating in group activities. Emotional regulation also becomes a key milestone, with children learning to express their emotions more appropriately and handle frustrations with more patience. At Oz Education, we provide a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to make choices, express their feelings, and practice social interactions in a safe and supportive space. Through cooperative play, group discussions, and guided conflict resolution activities, our program helps children build the social and emotional skills needed for a smooth transition to kindergarten. By fostering self-confidence and emotional intelligence, we ensure that children are well-equipped to interact with peers and adapt to new environments.

At this age, children experience rapid growth in both fine and gross motor skills. Fine motor skills, like drawing, cutting, and manipulating small objects, become more refined, while gross motor skills, such as running, jumping, and balancing, show improvement. These physical milestones help children gain more control over their bodies and develop the coordination needed for classroom activities, like holding a pencil or using scissors. At Oz Education, we offer daily opportunities for physical activity that support both fine and gross motor development. Children engage in activities like dance, obstacle courses, and interactive play based programs that promote coordination, strength, and flexibility. Our program also incorporates activities that fine-tune motor skills, such as arts and crafts, building with blocks, and puzzle-solving. By encouraging both large and small physical movements, we ensure children are prepared for the physical demands of kindergarten.

Between the ages of 4 and 6, children experience a rapid expansion in their language abilities. They start using more complex sentences, have a larger vocabulary, and begin to understand the structure of language. At this stage, children also begin to develop early literacy skills such as letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and the ability to rhyme. At Oz Education, we focus heavily on language development through interactive reading, storytelling, singing, and engaging in meaningful conversations. Our program includes activities that introduce letter sounds, build vocabulary, and nurture early writing skills. By offering a language-rich environment, we help children develop the communication skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.

Drawing

Between the ages of 4 and 6, children’s creativity and imagination flourish. They begin to engage in more complex forms of pretend play, explore their feelings through art and music, and experiment with different materials and mediums. At this stage, children can create stories, express emotions through drawings, and participate in group singing or dramatic play. At Oz Education, we provide a rich array of creative activities that encourage children to explore these artistic milestones. Whether through painting, singing, role-playing, or music, we offer opportunities for children to express themselves and develop their imagination. These creative experiences not only foster emotional expression but also support cognitive development by enhancing memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. Our program nurtures creativity in a way that prepares children to think critically and creatively in their future educational endeavors.

Reading and writing skills

As children approach kindergarten, they begin to explore the world of STEM concepts. They show an interest in how things work, enjoy asking questions, and start experimenting with simple tools or materials. They might also begin to understand concepts like measurement, weight, and basic problem-solving techniques. At Oz Education, we actively encourage exploration and discovery through play based STEM activities that allow children to experiment, explore, and create. Whether through building with blocks, conducting simple science experiments, or exploring patterns in nature, our program fosters a love for learning and discovery that is essential for future success in STEM fields. We create opportunities for children to solve problems, think critically, and understand the world around them in a way that will lay the groundwork for future academic exploration.
